The approach of Secours Catholique for the European elections

In the frame of the approach “For a more social and supportive Europe, it does concern me! Europe is about us!”, Secours Catholique commits for the European elections in 2014 and initiate actions in order to raise european awareness and also to promote the participation to all citizens, including the most vulnerable ones.

Secours Catholique is focusing on 3 topics for the European elections :

  • Social policies : To contribute to the objectives of the decrease of poverty in Europe which are described in the “Europe 2020” strategy
  • Migration: To promote to the implementation of a real European solidarity for the refugees
  • Right to food : To contribute to a world without hunger

Several actions are planned from now to the European elections in May in the frame of the approach. For example, Citizens’ breakfasts will be organized and aim at encouraging citizens, including people confronted with poverty, to vote. These events also aim at raising their awareness on the role they have to play and on the impact they can have. This will allow people facing poverty to meet and discuss directly with public people, representatives or candidates to the next European elections.
